Black Level and Dynamic Decoding

As I understood, the black level is the average background grey level. In dynamic

decoding option SD does ignore areas which have a grey level below this value.

Most of the time the codes are printed in black on white background (at least on paper),

how does this work then? What value should be set in such a case to speed up decoding?

Dynamic processing is designed to increase performance for situations where you have a bright object containing a bar code on a large dark background. A typical scenario where dynamic processing can improve performance is a conveyor belt application. In this type of application you have a bright package on a black conveyor belt. Dynamic processing works to only perform bar code decoding on the package ignoring the conveyor belt. Dynamic processing is not designed to improve performance where the entire background of the image is bright, for example a white piece of paper.
